Cousin Morris Stern in 1910

So who was the cousin whom Josef Handler was going to meet when he arrived from Hungary on April 14, 1910?

Morris Stern, of 193 East 3rd Street was enumerated on April 25, 1910, at 191-3 Third Street in Manhattan, New York, New York.

1910 U.S. Census, New York County, New York, population schedule, Manhattan Ward 17, enumeration district 919, sheet XVIIIA, dwelling 38, family 470, Morris Stern; image, Ancestry (https://www.ancestry.com : accessed 26 April 2020); citing NARA microfilm publication T624, roll 1033.

Detail from above census record.

Details of the Morris Stern family:

Morris Stern, age 25 (born about 1884-85), married 13 years, born Hungary / speaks German, immigrated 1909, Alien, occupation: Baker in a Shop. He rents his home.
Wife, Sadie Stern, age 24 (born about 1885-86), 1 child living, married 13 years, born Hungary / speaks German, immigrated 1909, no occupation listed.
Both Morris and Sadie can read and write English.
Son, Louis Stern, age 8 (born about 1901-02), born Hungary / speaks German, immigrated 1909, in school.

There are three boarders living in Morris Stern's household:
Louis Deutsch, age 23 (born about 1886-87), single, born Hungary / speaks Magyar, immigrated 1908, Alien, occupation stock clerk in a Brass factory.
Harry Davidowitch, age 18 (born about 1891-92), single, born Hungary / speaks Magyar, immigrated 1910, occupation laborer in Broom factory.
Joseph Davidowitch, age 40 (born about 1869-70), married 21 years, born Hungary, speaks Magyar, immigrated 1909, Alien, occupation laborer in a Hair factory.
They all claim that they can read and write English.

It is unknown if the three boarders are related to the Stern family; many recent immigrants boarded where they could until they saved up money to rent their own apartments and other immigrants rented out rooms to boarders to make a little extra money for their own households.

This is the name and address of the man whom Josef Handler reported on his passenger list, however, by April 25, Josef was not at this address, he was enumerated with his brother in Cleveland, Ohio, which I wrote about at A Surprise in the 1910 Census.

Morris Stern was simply his contact in New York who could vouch for him as he got off the boat on his way to his brother's home in Ohio.
